We here at DB have a problem and we need your help. After over 40 million downloads served, the server which hosts the DB tracker can no longer handle the load. Soon, it will cease to be. This leaves us with two options.
1) We stop subbing.
We don't want to do this. We would love to continue bringing shows we enjoy to the fans.
2) We buy a new server and connection.
This option fixes our problem and ensures years of continued subbing, providing we don't all kill ourselves first. However, we cannot afford to to replace the server ourselves. Our only option is to turn to you, our fans, and ask for your help.
We've debated this long and hard. It has been our standard practice not to accept donations. But we feel that accepting donations to replace the server is the lesser of two evils. With that in mind, we want to outline exactly what your donations would be going to and assurances that it is not simply for our own profit.
If you donate:
- All money will be used for the sole purpose of purchasing a new server and connection.
- No DB member will receive any money for their personal use.
- Any extra money will be donated to
Doctors Without Borders under the name DB Fansubs.
- You are under NO obligation to donate.
- You are under NO obligation to donate a certain monetary amount.
- Donating to DB DOES NOT count as a charitable contribution on your taxes. We are not a registered non-profit organization.
- Donating to DB DOES NOT give you the right to request a certain series be subbed or for something to be subbed within a certain time frame.
Remember, you are not paying us to sub anime. This is not payment for services rendered, a fee for downloading, etc.... If you donate, you are helping us and everyone of our fans continue to get shows they love.
If you can afford to donate and want to help us keep bringing these fansubs to the fans, then please donate. If you can't afford to donate or are unable to, then pass the word along.
So, please, we need your help. We will never do this again. It is a one time occurrence. We are opening donations for one month. Hopefully, we can raise enough to buy what we need and enough left over to do something good. Once donations are closed, we will let you know how much was raised, what your money is going to buy and how much we will be giving to Doctors Without Borders. If not enough is raised, we will donate all of the money to Doctors Without Borders and we will close up shop.
This is NOT a troll. It is NOT a joke. It is NOT a prank. (Notice the complete lack of YHBT) We are completely serious. If we cannot purchase a new server, there will be no more DB Fansubs. This isn't a threat, it is simply the way things are. Buying a new server if the only way we can keep our tracker up and running, and continue to bring you new episodes.
