Rep Power: 1 | | | ESF Update! Quoted from esforces.com
--------------------------------------
" I am sure a lot of you are confused about all the forum emails that have been sent out. In total, three messages were mass emailed to all registered forum members. Two were disguised as greg@esforces.com and cucumba@esforces.com and are from an illegitimate source. Cucumba did send out one legitimate email from rich.hernandez@gmail.com which contains the following message: Dear ESF Fan Base,
This is Cucumba, speaking on behalf of the ESF Forum staff. You have received an email, which was created by the coding minions, who were responsible for maliciously attacking our site, defacing both it and the forums. During this raid, or perhaps on a separate security breach, Minion stole a full copy of our forums, a copy of the ESF 1.3 Beta, and as I understand it, a full copy of the source code for ESF.
They have threatened previously to release 1.3, and have now done so, and are attempting to claim that they have been handed this material. Sadly, this is not the case. The 1.3 available for download for them is buggy, and is not he final product we intend to release. We will continue to work on, and release 1.3 in our own time.
The ESF team has not retired, nor are they planning on handing the source code out to other "select groups" (I assure you, Kurt and his group would be dead last for such privileges) despite claims to the contrary.
If you wish to continue to show your support for ESF, do not download MSF, do not run MSF servers, and do not spread any links you may run across.
Further, there is the chance that MSF may contain altered code that will allow minion to take control of your system, or hijack your steam">steam accounts and steal your steam">steam CD keys. For your own safety, do not run and install this game.
Sincerely,
Rich "Cucumba" Hernandez

Yes, you read correctly. A two month old version of beta 1.3 was leaked and the source code along with it. The ESF team can't guarantee that minion hasn't tampered with the code, so if you do decide to play a leaked copy do so at your own risk. It is in your best interest to ignore anyone affiliated with minion. They have stolen and repeatedly lied in the past. You have been given fair warning.
I spoke to Greg, the ESF site host and admin this morning and he has a couple of things he would like to share with everyone. "I would like to thank the overwhelming support we have received from the community regarding Kurt, and we have been able to track him down, and we have begun legal proceedings against him in a US District Court.
More news coming soon, and we will be publishing the full legal documents regarding the Kurt case so the community and other people out there know we are not bluffing when it comes to hackers." Okay, now for the good news!
As of the last week's meeting, Sunday December 24th, it has been decided that ESF will be OPEN BETA. So what does this mean? A snapshot of the current inteam will be made available publicly, on a bi-weekly basis. That is right, an exact copy of what is being tested inteam will be available to you. This does come with a down side, however. Here is what harSens has to say about the open beta: "It might be unbalanced, buggy and contains some console commands to make testing easier, that could be considered hacks. If you want to play competitively at a stable server, this might not be the release for you. However, if you would like to take a look in our kitchen, you might want to check this out."
When we say a snapshot will be available, it will be just that. No extra effort will be made to ensure things are complete or stable. The release will contain what ever new stuff has been added on that day of the release. Currently, we are looking into a couple different distribution methods. Once that is sorted out we will begin the open beta! More information will be available later on.
Oh yes, and Happy New Year!" | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
